What is PNP?
Provincial Nomination Programme, PNP, allows Canadian Provincial Governments and Territories to nominate individuals who are interested in settling in a particular province. Unlike the FSW, Federal Skilled Worker programme, PNP programmes do not automatically pick up individuals from the express entry pool. There are overall 10 provinces, and each of them have their own PNP programme. Candidates have to apply individually to the PNP of each province that they are interested in living.
Why you should consider PNP?
The PNP programme offers a unique opportunity for people who cannot clear the cutoff score of the FSW programme. Let’s say the CRS cutoff was at 400 points and you could only manage 399, or even less. In such a scenario, you may apply for a PNP programme whose eligibility criteria matches your skillset. If you get nominated from a province, you will receive an additional 600 points to your CRS score, which would all but guarantee an invite to apply.
Your profile must be in the express entry pool before you apply for a PNP programme. Another important point to note is that you need to pay extra fee(varies for different PNP programmes) for applying. This could range from anywhere between CAD $300 to CAD $1500.
After receiving PR through PNP, you must land in that province and sign an agreement that you would live there for approximately two years.
PNP programme opens and closes at various points throughout the year. They might open just for a day or a few days without any prior notice, so your PNP application must be ready to submit and you need to be alert in checking the official website.
